Wastewater Case Study
Decker Meat Company (Swift)
Business Type: Meat Processing (Sausage, hamburger, etc.)
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Operation:
Decker Meats, which is owned by Swift, is a regional meat packer/processor serving the Southwest. Decker’s San Antonio facility utilizes a 5,000 gallon clarifier and has a daily average flow over 100,000 gallons/day.

Problem:
Prior to treatment, Decker had severe line blockages and grease accumulations that required chemicals and pumping services. Contaminant charges were also a problem.
Treatment:
Treatment began in March 1989 using Mega-Bac X bacterial products. Dispensing is accomplished with an automatic pumping system. Treatment continues today.
Results:
Accumulated grease and other food wastes have been sufficiently reduced in the clarifier to eliminate regular pumpings. Chemical use has been discontinued. Since treatment began, line blockages for grease accumulations have been virtually eliminated and using Mega-Bac has also controlled contaminant charges.
Conclusions:
Mega-Bac is an effective, economical wastewater treatment for meat processing operations.
