Case Studies: Sludge Reduction
Facility
Correctional Center, Ok
Inmate Population 1400
This facility has two correctional centers and the town (population 2000) utilizing the same wastewater system, which is on the correctional center's grounds. There is a primary cell and a secondary cell about 4 acres each. The third cell is approximately 8 acres. Cells are 6 feet deep.

Problem:
Cell #3 had a sludge buildup. There was an average of approximately 7 inches of sludge in the lagoon. Some areas had over 12 inches. The criteria for the #3 third cell allows no more than 3 inches of sludge in this cell.
Treatment:
The initial treatment for this facility was started on November 15 with an initial dose of 330 gallons of Mega-Bac X. It was pumped into the corners and sides of cell #3. On January 6, the final sludge depth reading was taken, showing an average of less than 3 inches.
Summary:
The sludge from the lagoon was reduced 63% with bioremediation using Mega-Bac X. This was accomplished in approximately 50 days during the winter months.
